Zellige Moroccan Mosaic Course Details (Group Course)

The Moroccan mosaic is made using special glazed terracotta tiles, handmade and produced specifically in Morocco, in Fez, at the request of our school.

During the course, the principles of Moroccan mosaic, typical of North African culture, will be explored and learned. Specifically:

• hand cutting of Maghreb ceramics,
• conception and design of decorative motifs of Moroccan zellige,
• creation of 2 Moroccan mosaic works with ceramic moroccan tiles.

Location: The workshop will be held for the entire duration at the Mosaico In Tessere school in Narni Scalo (Tr).

Goals: During the course you will have the opportunity to explore arabesque design, an art form rich in symbolism, geometry and complexity.

Introduction to the principles and motifs of Arabic design , from intricate geometric patterns to delicate arabesques

Teachers: Tiziana Mondini (mosaic teacher and director of the school) EM aria Medina (expert in Arabic and Moroccan mosaics).

Detailed program

Day 1: History of Arab Architecture and Arabic Design

• Exploring the history of Arab architecture and the principles of Arab design.
• Study of the various styles and iconic motifs of arabesque decoration through historical and contemporary examples.
• Practical drawing and composition exercises to develop the ability to create patterns and motifs inspired by the Arab artistic tradition.

Day 2 and 3:

• Creation of 2 Moroccan style mosaics with original hand-cut glazed terracotta tiles.
• Learn the techniques of precise cutting and assembly of tiles to create wall decorations, tables, and fountains.
• Closing Ceremony: Delivery of Certificates

This workshop "Colors of Morocco Zellige: a millenary art" offers a unique opportunity to explore the tradition and art of Arabic ceramics and Moroccan mosaic, transforming knowledge and passion into authentic works of art.
