Course Description

The micromosaic jewellery group course is an intensive programme dedicated to studying one of the most refined techniques in mosaic art.

Participants will explore micromosaic as a decorative and artistic language, applying it to create unique jewellery pieces made with Venetian glass threads and murrine.

The course combines theory and practice, allowing participants to learn the technical and stylistic principles of micromosaic, experimenting directly in the laboratory under the guidance of a master mosaicist.

During the three days of the main course, each participant will create two personal micromosaic jewellery pieces, delving into substrate preparation, material cutting, micro-tessera composition, laying, and finishing techniques.

It is also possible to participate in an optional fourth day, entirely dedicated to glass fusing and the creation of the threads used in micromosaic jewellery.

During this additional day, participants will observe and experiment with the glass processing, from fusing to creating the very fine threads that are subsequently cut and used as micro-tesserae.

The course is held in small groups of up to 10 participants, to ensure a personalized learning experience and constant technical support.

3-day Course Programme

Day 1

Morning

• Course and participant presentation

• Theoretical lesson on the history and characteristics of micromosaic

• Introduction to micromosaic applied to jewellery

• Presentation of tools and materials

• Study of Venetian glass thread and murrine

• Analysis of traditional and contemporary styles

• Selection of base jewellery and subjects to be created

Afternoon

• Preliminary exercises in cutting and processing materials

• Substrate preparation

• Study of composition and colors

• Beginning of the creation of the first jewellery piece

Day 2

• Continuation of the creation of the first micromosaic jewellery piece

• Cutting and preparing micro-tesserae

• Study of material arrangement

• Laying and space filling techniques

• Fusing with a blowtorch for preparing smaller threads

• Finishing and completion of the first jewellery piece

• Design of the second jewellery piece

Approximate jewellery size: approx. 3 × 3 cm

Day 3

• Preparation of the second jewellery piece

• Creation of the mosaic composition

• Use of threads and murrine to achieve different chromatic effects

• Precision techniques in laying micro-tesserae

• Completion and finishing of the second jewellery piece

• Final analysis of the works created

• Issuance of the certificate of participation

• Handover of the created jewellery to participants

Fourth Optional Day Programme

Glass Fusing for Thread Creation

The fourth day is dedicated to deepening glass processing and creating the threads used in micromosaic jewellery.

During the day, the following topics will be covered:

• Theoretical introduction to glass composition and characteristics

• Presentation of tools and equipment

• Safety regulations during processing

• Preparation of materials and colors

• Demonstration of glass fusing

• Creation of threads of different thicknesses

• Guided practical exercises

• Cutting and preparing the produced threads

• Instructions for their subsequent use in micromosaic

Supplement for the fourth day: €180

The day is optional and can be excluded at the time of registration.

Works Created

At the end of the course, each participant will take home:

• two personal micromosaic jewellery pieces;

• the basic tool kit received during the course;

• the manual and didactic handouts;

• the certificate of participation.

It is possible to purchase the entire course or reserve your place by paying a fee of €120.

The reservation fee:

• is non-refundable;

• is valid for one year;

The balance must be paid on-site the day before the start of the course.
