Course description

The course teaches one of the most distinctive methods of the Ravenna mosaic tradition: the direct method on a temporary support. Tesserae are placed directly on a temporary base, allowing their orientation, angle and depth to be controlled precisely before the final transfer.

Through traditional procedures, participants develop sensitivity in composition, light management and surface treatment, creating a mosaic of high technical and expressive quality. Places are limited to 10 participants.

Course outline

Day 1

Introduction to the Ravenna tradition, materials and tools. Preparation of the design and temporary support.

Day 2

Start of direct laying; study of andamento and control of tessera angles.

Day 3

Continuation of the mosaic; management of depth, compositional rhythm and light reflection.

Day 4

Completion of the laying process and preparation of the artwork for final transfer.

Day 5

Transfer to the final support, cleaning and finishing.
Presentation of the certificate of attendance and completed artwork.
