Course Details Roman Micromosaic (group course)

The course promoted by the In Tessere school is a group course dedicated to Roman art and ancient micromosaic . Marble micromosaic is a very refined technique used by the Romans to represent daily life with extraordinary realism.

Students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of classical art, with an intensive course on the study of the canons of Roman art and to make an exact copy of a Roman mosaic, as well as being able to visit one of the most important museums of Roman art in Rome with the expert guidance of Tiziana Mondini.

Location: The theoretical part will take place at the Mosaico In Tessere school in Narni Scalo (Tr). The visit will take place at the Palazzo Massimo museum in the city of Rome.

Objectives : During the course, students will be guided by master mosaicist Tiziana Mondini in the process of creating a micromosaic work , addressing all the themes of realism, study of trends and study of marbles.

Detailed course program

Day 1: Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Roman Micromosaic

  • Introduction to the history of Roman art and the fundamental principles of ancient canons.

  • Study of micromosaic execution techniques, study of manual cutting techniques, arrangement and placement of tiles.

  • Guided hands-on exercises to experience the creative process.

Day 2: Start creating a Roman micromosaic work: copy of an ancient Roman mosaic

  • Each student will choose the micromosaic work they would like to create.

  • Choice of materials and start of project.

  • Theoretical and practical study to create a shade with marble.

Next days: Project completion

  • Each student will proceed to complete their own work.

  • Study of the finishing touches.

Day 6: Guided Tour of Rome

  • Guided tour of the Roman mosaic works of art in the National Roman Museum of Palazzo Massimo.

  • Deepening and understanding of micromosaic after admiring examples of ancient Roman micromosaic and mosaic.

  • Closing Ceremony: Celebration of the experience with the delivery of certificates to participants.

***All works created by each participant during the course will remain his/her property. The school offers, upon request and for a fee, a home delivery service for the artifacts.

LANGUAGE COURSE

The course is taught in Italian by the teacher Tiziana Mondini.

Possibility of simultaneous translation into English by a professional translator present during the lessons.

The mosaic school in Tessere is open all year round and follows national holidays.

Each of our courses is an individual course where the student decides both the starting date and the calendar of the lessons.

The student can decide the number of hours of lessons per day and the division into several weeks, according to their needs.
