Course Description

The advanced course in Roman mosaic explores the techniques and aesthetic principles of ancient mosaics, with particular attention to naturalistic, chromatic, and compositional rendering inspired by classical iconographic models.

Participants will learn how to manually cut tesserae (opus tessellatum and opus vermiculatum) and study different types of marble , analyzing their physical and chromatic properties. The workshop will lead to the creation of works inspired by ancient canons , developing specific technical skills and a first-hand understanding of the materials and working methods typical of Roman mosaics.

Morning: Presentation and theoretical lesson on Roman mosaics and their evolution

How to register
